SHINING IN THE DARK (Day #20 What I Learned)

Nothing is certain
There's no guarantee, that life
Is going to give you
All the things you dreamed about
No matter how hard you try.

One day you might wake
To find everything you love
All that you worked for
Dissolve into nothingness
It's then that you must decide

You can just give up
And choose to wallow and whine
Or you can go on
Because who knows what bright star
May start shining in the dark?

GOOD FOR NOTHING (Day # 18 - same)

Most people are good
Almost every thing has worth
There is a value
To sights, sounds, tastes, smells and touch
...and feelings
   Except for hate.

WHAT I MEANT TO SAY (Day # 17 - same)

I know what I said
I said I'd think about it
I needed some time
I don't know why I said that
What I meant to say was...no.

SUNSET (Day #12 a transformative poem)

What once was clear blue
Has exploded with color
Pink, purple, orange,
Adorning the twighlight sky
Blending, fading into night.

SMILE (#2 Disguise)

I put on a smile
And say everything is fine
Because explaining
Isn't worth the energy
When it won't be understood.

IN THE NIGHT

Trying to stay strong for them
And holding it together
But in the night and quiet
When I'm tired and alone
I just can't hold back the tears
Or keep my heart from breaking.

THE ARMS OF GOD

For us, time stood still
The moment that the doctor
Said, I'm so sorry,
We did everything we could,
But she's in the arms of God.

It happened so fast;
No time to say our good-byes
Or that we loved her.
But she knew. I know she knew
Watching...from the arms of God.

ALL RIGHT (#24 Prompt: Lost and Regained)

True, we had lost touch
But when I heard that she was gone
Without a good-bye
And no forwarding address
Nothing about it felt right.

Years passed and often
I wondered what had happened
It wasn't like her
But sometimes we lose out minds
When we're following our hearts.

One day, she was back
She worried I'd be angry
But no, not a chance
I have my friend back again
And everything is all right.

MY FRIEND... (#20 Prompt: what goes unsaid)

What I should have said
Doesn't realy matter now
What I could have said
Nothing I can do about

Can only keep missing you.

KABUKI (#16 prompt: in or about a food establishment)

A cup of green tea
Pickled ginger, wasabi
Holding my chopsticks
Waiting for my miso soup
And one California Roll.

Caren E. Salas

Ah...heaven on a plate. My friend introduced me to Kabuki Restaurant, the funny thing is she doesn't like sushi! I only like a bit of the raw stuff, but I love me some California Rolls! So this is a love poem. A Tanka (syllabic form). And hey, try out Kabuki.

URBAN AIR (#7 "Urban ---")

You really don't know
Until you go someplace else
And you realize
You can breathe, I mean really
Inhale deeply, exhale...breathe.

Weightless

The water is cold;
Hard to get into sometimes,
But I push myself,
Closing my eyes, believing
For a while, that I'm...weightless.

MAYBE (Day 25 - Across the Sea)

Maybe, just maybe
Somebody has an answer;
In another land
Across the great blue ocean
Someone has it figured out.

EXTINCT (Day 21 - Who I am/Who I am not)

I am endangered
Still living but moving toward
Extinction, fighting
Everyday against all odds
In a world filled with horror.

Each day the number
Of undead is increasing
My chances are slim
And my hopes of survival
Fade into the toxic air.

A JOB THAT I HATED (Day 9 - Work)

Long ago, before
The beginning of the end
Every day I'd go
To a job that I hated
Waiting for the week to end.

Now each day I fight
Struggling just to stay alive
And I miss my life
And that job that I hated
Waiting for the world to end.

Let's Do it Again! #29

We piled on the red
Triangle sled, held on tight
Flying through the snow
Down 'Suicide Hill" Crashing,
Crying, "Let's do that again!"

Keep this Heart - Day 5

Keep this heart of mine
Someplace safe, someplace quiet.
Don't make me regret
Having given it to you.
It's fragile; handle with love.

Prompt for today was "Keep this ____"

The Mist - Day 3

The Mist

After the rain fell
A soft mist hugged the mountain
Like a mother's touch
A quilt over its shoulders
Comfort on a cold damp night.

Day 3 of NOVPAD: Robert Lee Brewer's prompt for this one was a "blanket" poem. I loved how open this one was. It could mean a literal blanket, a blanket statement or even a blanket of mist...

Sunday Afternoon Optimism - Day 1 (NOVPAD)

Sunday afternoon
The week ahead all planned out.
With optimism
And a smile, I look forward.
Going to get so much done!

Monday morning comes;
Radio alarm sings out
Time to start the day!
However, motivation,
Sadly...has left the building.

Caren E. Salas

I have decided to accept the challenge of Robert Lee Brewer's "Poem a Day" for the month of November. Yes, I'm a little behind in posting, but I have been doing the writing. So this is the first day's prompt which was: a "game over" poem. It's in Tanka form.

The Words

I miss my old friends,
Seems we've been apart so long.
I pushed them aside.
Didn't mean to forget them,
Ignore them, or neglect them.

But one day I knew
Somehow I'd left them behind.
I'd never written
Spoken, or even e-mailed,
And they were no longer mine.

See, it's all my fault
I just let them slip away.
No good-byes or tears
Just a dark and silent space
With nothing to do or say.

I can only hope
They'll give me another chance
To put things in line,
Focus on important stuff,
And love how they make me feel.
