HONEY

When Whiskey came, he needed us
Because life had been unfair
He was timid, skittish, scared
He needed someone to care.

And he became my constant friend
My shadow day and night
My little grumpy old guy
Always ready for a fight.

Then Honey came, a tiny angel
Four short legs and great big eyes
She touched our hearts, and Whiskey's too
(Which came as a surprise!)

And so it seems she's here to stay
This tender ball of fur
We love Whiskey 'cause he needed us
And Honey...we need her.

Destined to Be a Star! Day 26: "Casting" poem

And playing the part of the beloved family pet...
WHISKEY!
Approximately 9 whopping pounds of excited furry fun!
About 13 years old (no one really knows)
Dark eyes, long blondish hair
Missing teeth, long tongue
Scar under one eye where he once had an abscess
Has an odd attachment to mini tennis balls (likes to chew the fuzz off)
Suffers from separation anxiety
Thinks a crust of bread trumps a dog treat any day
Can adaquately communicate "yes" and "no"
Wants no payment for his obedience and loyalty
Aside from a little affection, a warm bed and some food
Clearly, he is destined to be a star!!
Let's here it for....
WHISKEY!!

Whiskey Dreams

Whiskey dreams in black and white
Nightmares fierce, ready to fight
Threatening growl toothless glare
All nine pounds of "just beware!"
Whiskey dreams in black and white
My little guy, all through the night.

I am NOT Your Chew Toy

Day 10:  A different perspective poem. The challenge today was to write a poem from the perspective of someone or something else. I couldn't resist being Whiskey for the day. I often wonder what he thinks, because he seems to think he's a tough guy.  He'll get right in the face of the big dogs as if to say "Yeah! Whataya gonna' do about it? Huh? You wanna piece a me??"  He's so fierce. (Only he's Christian Siriano "fierce", I'm afraid.)

I am NOT Your Chew Toy

A little respect, friend
If you don't mind
While you're back there sniffing
Around my behind.

I may be smallish
And my teeth might be bad
But I can still - um, bark
So buddy, don't make me mad!

Age before beauty
Isn't that what they say?
Well, I'm old but I'm feisty
Don't believe me? Let's play!

I'll run circles around you,
You lumbering brute!
And on top of it all
I'm pretty darn cute!

I'm not your new chew toy,
And I'm not a big rat.
So show some respect,
Or else I'll call the cat.
