ALL ALONG

I swear I knew you long ago
In another life, or a different show
Or maybe it was a dream that I
Imagined in my sleep one night
Like a song I heard from another room
That I wasn't paying attention to
The faintest light on the darkest path
In a memory I never really had
A word, a touch, a déjà vu
Our hearts had met before...I just knew.

I'm sure I knew you far away
In another world, on a different day
Or maybe it was a book I read
And I made it all up inside my head
Like a story I have yet to write
Lost on the pages of my unhinged mind
A glimmer of thought in an endless sea
A past that was always meant to be.
Faces in the crowd, a voice on the phone
An embrace so warm, it felt like home.

It feels like I've known you all along
We've played the same scenes, and sang all the songs
And maybe our souls just awaited the day
We'd finally meet and put on this play
Like the dreams we all shared when we were just children
That we hoped for, but thought, it's one in a million
With a twinkle of stars, and no wish denied
This journey became a hell of a ride.
One for the love of it, two for the show
Hold on to these memories, and never let go.

GOING DOWN (#10 a "going somewhere" poem)

Yes, that's me!
The airplane circles higher
And higher, until it's time
To step out: Ready, Set, Go!
At first tumbling, no knowing
Which way is up then...free fall.
Straight down, no changing my mind.

Surprisingly, I felt safe
Attached to my instructor;
The world so small beneath me.
A tug, a jolt and then...peace.
Floating quietly dream-like,
Landing on the beach below.

Eyes Closed

The petals drop one by one
My opening night bouquet
Fading into every day
Mere hours remain of this dream
And I don't want to wake up
Eyes closed, let me sleep some more.

LIFE (Day 16 - Science)

there are those who believe in science
what they can prove and what they can see
and those who believe in miracles

in visions or signs or faith in God
i'm not sure nor am i arrogant
enough to presume i have a clue

about whether one or the other
has the answers to it all or not
i have experiences and dreams

and being a poet would rather
rely on faith rather than science

Way Too Fast

The final hours tick away
Time's flying way too fast
I'm not quite ready for this show
To be part of my past.

To quote the song "Who will buy..."
These moments that I've shared
With people that I've grown to love
Risking all I'd never dared.

Alone #23

Alone and asleep
Trusting I'll be looked after
By angels and dreams.

Sweet Dreams #18

Sweet
Dreams
Linger
All day long
Until the night calls
And we go back to dream again.

My Love and I - Day 14: A Sonnet

My Love and I

My love and I need to run away for a while
To relax and remember how it feels to smile
Far away to some paradise close to the sea
On an isolated island where we don't need a key
Because not a soul will around there for days
Except seagulls and turtles and endless sun rays
We'll feast upon mangos and coconuts and fish
Stay up all night long, and wake when we wish
Swimming in an ocean that's warm and clear
We won't want to leave until maybe next year
And I'll collect sea shells while he lies in the sun
And together we'll count stars when the sunsets are done
It all sounds like heaven, and that's how it will seem
If we ever escape, and find this sweet dream.

In Case of Sleep - Day 11: "In Case of ____"

In case of sleep, give in and don't fight;
Your blankets are warm and you're tucked in tight.
Grab your teddy before I shut off the light,
And just say good night, just say good night.

In case of sleep, give in to your dreams;
Submit to the stars and the shining moon beams,
For there is where everything glitters and gleams,
Even more than it seems, even more than it seems.

In case of sleep, give in, close your eyes
And imagine rainbows and sweet butterflies.
For now, just listen to my lullabies.
I'll be here when you rise, I'll be here when you rise.

How to Fly - Day 8: an Instructional Poem

Take a breath and imagine:
The taste of a summer's day
The sound of a dream come true
The feeling of being loved
The most beautiful sunset.

Now, add pixie dust...and fly.

Midnight - Day 2: a Bright Poem, or a Dark Poem

Bright
Sparkling
Firmament
Brooding midnight skies
I gaze and dream of paradise.

If I Were Dreaming...

If I were dreaming and I could fly
Off to Neverland  I'd go, second star to the right
I'd stay forever, never to die
If I were dreaming and I could fly
Just the pirates, mermaids, the Lost Boys and I
We'd make our adventures last morning to night
If I were dreaming and I could fly
Off to Neverland I'd go, second star to the right.

Whiskey Dreams

Whiskey dreams in black and white
Nightmares fierce, ready to fight
Threatening growl toothless glare
All nine pounds of "just beware!"
Whiskey dreams in black and white
My little guy, all through the night.

Maybe

A hopeless and optomistic dreamer I
Raise my champagne glass up high
To toast the coming year.
Maybe I won't make the same mistakes
Or break the promises I never made
To those who swear I swore,
But I don't remember any more.

A chronic and procrastinating dreamer I
Gaze out at the somewhat cloudy sky
To find my destiny there.
Maybe if I could just play the game
From start with zero points
For once as I was getting going,
And I'd get ahead and not be owing.

An exhausted, underestimating dreamer I
Sometimes find I've bit off quite
The challenging buffet. What can I say?
Maybe this will be the meal
That satisfies without the consequential
Calories or price, and dessert for free.
This could be the time...maybe.

Artwork

Sunset colors paint the sky
With hues that glow, and light up
The millions of waves dancing
On a darkening ocean.
Sunflower gold, to poppy
Orange, fuchsia, and purples...

God's brushstrokes command the clouds
So far beyond any dream
In my imagination;
More than any words I write
Or artwork once created.
It is a glimpse of heaven.

Ballet

Ballet

Peeling sweat-soaked leotards
And tights off after practice;
The pink leather slippers tossed
To the side, everything ached.
I wouldn't have traded it
For anything in the world.

I Dreamed...

Day 20: Write a "best ever" poem.  I decided not to write in any particular form. In fact, the whole thing is like one long run-on sentence, but it's about a dream, and isn't that what they are like? Believe it or not, some of what's in this poem are from actual dreams I've had...well maybe not the monkeys (in case you were worried about my sanity).

I Dreamed...

I dreamed of you...

And then I flew like I was swimming
And all my friends were there
And the sky was filled with purple clouds
And everyone had ice cream.

Then I started doing jumping jacks
Completely in the nude
But no one really noticed me
They all went on their way.

And the monkeys on the swing-set
Screeched, and clapped their hands
As if to say,
"Yeah, you're okay."

Then I was backstage for a play
But I didn't know my lines
And I had to find a basket ball
For the second scene.

And I started quoting "Juliet"
But they were doing "Mame."
But no one seemed to realize
The blunder I had made.

And the monkeys in the audience
Screeched, and clapped their hands
As if to say,
"You'll be okay"

And I saw you

And then I flew and you were with me,
And we were there
And the clouds were cotton candy
It was the best dream...
      It was the best dream.
