Some Days

Some days are good days
Life's distractions free her mind
The pain, not so bad
The memories, off to the side
Not so close to the surface.

Some days are harder
Every little thing blurts out
How alone she feels
The physical pain matches
The pain she feels in her heart.

Some days getting up
Getting dressed, eating breakfast
Breathing in, and out
Takes a strength she doesn't have
Without the help of angels.

Robert Lee Brewer's Wednesday prompt: a poem about a "challenge". Sometimes getting through each day is challenge enough.

  1. My heart goes out to the protagonist. Perhaps there are thousands more angels than we know, helping us carry on.

    Thanks -lovely poem, Mosk

  2. This poem instantly made me think of a dear friend who is going through cancer treatment right now. Beautifully honest and heartfelt!

  3. Thanks, this poem was actually written for a friend of mine who lost her husband to cancer. In addition, she has RA, so she's had a incredibly difficult time of it, and my heart breaks for her.
