TAMALE DAY (Day #22 "_____Day")

My mother-in-law and me. Miss her so much.

I'm not sure how she did it
All those tamales in one
Or two days, meat simmering
On the stove, mixing masa,
Wrapping them in the corn husks...
It was a labor of love.

Ah...heaven on a plate. My friend introduced me to Kabuki Restaurant, the funny thing is she doesn't like sushi! I only like a bit of the raw stuff, but I love me some California Rolls! So this is a love poem. A Tanka (syllabic form). And hey, try out Kabuki.

LAST ONE (#13 Prompt: "Last ____")

I stand, agonizing.

Staring at the almost empty

Pink cardboard box

Of crumbs and sugary shrapnel

And one,

One last doughnut.

I look around the room.

Is it being saved for someone?

Did everybody get one?

Maybe I should just take half.

I mean, really, I don't really need it.

On the other hand,

It's not something I have everyday...

Oh, what the heck!

I should just grab it before--

Hi! 

Oh no, go ahead!

I mean, really, I don't really need it.

It's just a doughnut...

ALL EATEN (Day 18 - Pick 2 vowels)

Apples, peaches, grapes

The prompt today was a challenge: I could pick 2 vowels, and then write a poem using only those vowels. I chose A and E. I figured I'd better stick with a shorter form so I wrote a haiku.  It's off my "theme", but what the heck, it was this or zombie moans and groans; and there are too many different vowels in the words zombie, and undead. 

Candy Corn - Day 7

Every Halloween they call

To me: those yellow, orange, 

And white triangles from hell.

They're my addiction,

And I just can't help myself.

Prompt: write a "compulsion" poem. I know it's late for Halloween candy, but it is a recent compulsion, which I'm glad is over for another year. I know it's always around somewhere, but at least it's not down every aisle of the stores except during Halloween!

Pantry Raid - Day 9: A Hunter or Hunted Poem

Tomato paste, evaporated milk,

Hot cocoa, enchilada sauce, peanut

Butter, lasagna noodles, cereal,

Instant mashed potatoes, chocolate cake mix,

Flour, sugar, salad oil, salt, pepper,

Cinnamon and other spices, honey,

Camomile tea bags in a jar, several

Cans of chicken soup, a bag of croutons.

All this food but nothing really sounds good

To eat, so tell me: Where are the cookies?

Tacos

Tacos! So delicioso!

Crispy crust, with a choice of meat:

Carne asada, chicken or fish,

So many ways for me to eat!

Want some lettuce? Maybe cheese?

Some chili sauce or sour cream?

Tomatoes? Olives? Wait! There's more!

Add jalapenos til you scream!

Or just some salsa, maybe mild,

And don't forget the guacamole,

Frijoles in or on the side,

But leave some room for hot pozole!

Day 18 of Robert Lee Brewer's Poem a Day challenge, prompt: your favorite regional food. I immediately thought: TACOS! Really. I love Mexican food. Don't pay attention to my name, I'm basically a gringo, but I am married to a Mexican :) and my mom was half Mexican, so between my mom and his (and thankfully they taught me a few things) there's some seriously good food around.
P.S. Pozole is a type of spicy soup, also pretty dang good.
