NO TAPPING OUT (#14 prompt:"Time Out")

They each like to argue about what it's about;
But I'm still confused, still filled with doubt.
I just want to cover my ears up and shout,
"I need a time out! I need a time out!"

Who knows what the truth is, it all seems absurd.
I've tuned it all out. I can't hear a word.
I stare out the window and see a small bird,
As it lets out a turd, It let out a turd!

It seems not to matter who's wrong or who's right.
It's who's still alive at the end of the fight.
There's no tapping out in this race tonight;
We can only sit tight, we can only sit tight.

FUTURE HISTORY (Day 23 - Historical)

In the year two thousand seventy three
A virus has broken out all over me
They say that I'm dead, I say they're crazy
How can I be? How can I be?

In the year two thousand seventy four
I keep eating brains but still I want more
I've never had such a craving before
It's hard to ignore, it's hard to ignore.

In the year two thousand seventy five
I've come to accept I'm no longer alive
But if being a zombie helps me survive
Give me a high five! Give me a high five!

AND THEY CALLED IT ZOMBIE LO-O-O-OVE.. (Day 7 - love/anti-love)

The two of us were only recently undead
Still we knew that what we felt, was not just in our heads
We didn't even mind when people screamed at us and fled
Love was a special journey...
We didn't fear to tread; we didn't fear to tread.

He said he hardly noticed the flesh melting off my face
Or my occasional extremities dropping all over the place
And when I lost my left eyeball, he kissed the empty space
Some say it cannot last...
We know that's not the case; we know that's not the case.

We're going to love each other until the very end
Until we have no legs to stand or elbows we can bend
Whatever time we have on earth, forever I will spend
Every loving moment...
With my zom-boyfriend, With my zom-boyfriend.

DEARLY DEPARTED (Day 4 - departure)

If only death were the final end
With the hope of heaven around the bend
Instead of this horror we can't comprehend
When the nightmare begins, when the nightmare begins.

Our dearly departed are not gone at all
They've started decaying but still walk and crawl
You must aim for the head, or they never will fall
No matter how tall, no matter how small.

(Sorry, but you knew there had to be zombies, right?)

Not the Same #26

When I'm down for the count, please don't try and claim
That you know how I feel, that you've played the game.
I know that you're trying, and I'm not placing blame
But it's just not the same, it's just not the same.

Sometimes we all have a need to complain
And everyone has their own level of pain
But your constant one-upping just makes me insane
And there's nothing to gain, there's nothing to gain.

Prompt # 26 Something that is or isn't the "same". This isn't aimed at anyone in particular (my disclaimer, lol) Just a common complaint from those of us with chronic illnesses.

A Date with Wonder Woman - Day 4

She's a beautiful heroine, strong and true
Dazzling in her outfit of red, white and blue
But out on a date, she hasn't a clue
About what she should do, about what she should do.

Because right from the start, she ties up the guy
With her Lasso of Truth, in case he might lie
And there's no chance of romance by the look in her eye
So he just says good-bye, he just says good-bye.

She stares at the dinner still left on her plate
And wonders if it's just her, or maybe it's fate
That she's loved throughout the United States
But she can't get a date, she can't get a date.

In Case of Sleep - Day 11: "In Case of ____"

In case of sleep, give in and don't fight;
Your blankets are warm and you're tucked in tight.
Grab your teddy before I shut off the light,
And just say good night, just say good night.

In case of sleep, give in to your dreams;
Submit to the stars and the shining moon beams,
For there is where everything glitters and gleams,
Even more than it seems, even more than it seems.

In case of sleep, give in, close your eyes
And imagine rainbows and sweet butterflies.
For now, just listen to my lullabies.
I'll be here when you rise, I'll be here when you rise.

No "Fair"

Dark and light, wrong and right
Up and down, day and night
Fish that swim, birds in flight
The world seems right; the world seems right.

Then balance sways, the tide is turned
Innocence lost, lessons learned
Blood has boiled, stomach churned
Now I've been burned; Now I've been burned.

My faith in others sadly wanes
My heart is locked with double chains
Each rainbow's dented, marked with stains
And so it rains; and so it rains.

The guilty flee while others stay
Dealt the blame, where no blame lay
How nice it is to walk away
While others pay; While others pay.

These days I find I just don't care
Forgotten dreams I used to dare
I go along, I breathe the air
There is no "fair"; there is no "fair".

Sometimes I just gotta' get things off my chest. For those of you that don't know me personally, recent events have made me a bit bitter (just a bit) and somewhat cynical. Don't worry, I don't intend on writing a series of angry poems...hopefully just this one. It's a monotetra in form - I tend to repeat myself when I 'm frustrated, so this seemed the perfect fit for how I'm feeling.

A Gift

I tripped on a black cat and started to fall
Knocked over a mirror that hung in the hall
It broke into pieces as it fell off the wall
This is no good at all! This is no good at all!

Stepped under a ladder and on every crack
Opened an umbrella, now I'm under attack
Since I lost my rabbit's foot, my life's out of whack
How do I get back? How do I get back?

I broke a champagne glass while making a toast
I hit "delete all" while typing this post
If having bad luck was a gift I could boast
Yes, I have the most. Yes, I have the most.

My Lovely Zucchini

Day 22: Another 2 for Tuesday - my choices: a poem about a fruit, or a poem about a vegetable...what to do, what to do... Since I'm playing with forms, this one is a monotetra.

My Lovely Zucchini

Sometimes you're big, sometimes you're teeny;
I think you're delicious, even though you're quite greeny.
I love you alone, or with some linguine
My lovely zucchini, my lovely zucchini.

Meatloaf Tonight

When everythings wrong and nothing seems right,
When I'm frustrated, tired, upset and uptight,
Just three little words make my world bright,
It's meatloaf tonight! It's meatloaf tonight!

No other food makes me salivate more,
When I get home from work and come through the door,
I'm willing to do any task, any chore,
For the dish I adore, for the dish I adore.

No, speghetti and garlic bread really won't do it
Don't offer me steak, I don't want to chew it.
Like I said before, I thought we'd been through it,
I thought that you knew it, I thought that you knew it.

So show me your love, make me high as a kite,
I can just about taste that first perfect bite,
Other than you, there's no better sight,
Than meatloaf tonight, Than meatloaf tonight.

Home by the Sea

Opened my eyes, opened the door,
Breathed in the air, there by the shore,
Sand at my feet, sand on the floor,
Can't ask for more, can't ask for more.
